NIRF 2025 Ranking: 33 colleges from Tamil Nadu secured ranks in the college category, 12 ranked in management.
More than 50 colleges emerged from Tamil Nadu in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 for the major categories. The state is also home to the best engineering college in India – IIT Madras.
Notably, multi-disciplinary institutions such as Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, and Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences have made a place in several categories including overall, engineering, management, medical, among others.
14 Tamil Nadu institutes secured positions in top 100 in NIRF engineering ranking 2025 with NIT Tiruchirappalli, SRM, VIT, and Anna University being in top 20 and private universities like Amrita, SASTRA, Kalasalingam making it to top 50. Chennai, Coimbatore, and Tiruchirappalli emerged as engineering hubs.
PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, PSG College of Arts & Science, Loyola College (14), Presidency College, and Madras Christian College are some of the best colleges in Tamil Nadu that students can consider for undergraduate studies.

The third best medical college in India for MBBS is situated in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore – Christian Medical College (CMC). The college retained the top spot this year as well.
In the management category, 12 institutes from the state are among the top 100 MBA colleges in India with the best being IIT Madras’ Department of Management Studies (DoMS), placed at 13th spot.
