NIT Calicut hosts national conclave on NPST and national mission for mentoring

The National Conclave 2026 on the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) and the National Mission for Mentoring (NMM) was held at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut, Kerala. The event was organised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in collaboration with NIT Calicut.

The conclave focused on capacity building, orientation, and institutional handholding of officials from State Directorates of School Education, State Councils of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs), District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), and State/UT Nodal Officers.

Principals and teachers from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliated schools participated in live demonstrations and hands-on registration on the NPST and NMM portals.

Teacher education implementation plans discussed

As per the official press release, the programme included technical sessions on the conceptual framework of NPST, implementation strategies, live portal demonstrations, self-assessment modules, expert presentations, group discussions, and structured feedback mechanisms.

Officials and stakeholders from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands attended the conclave.

Strengthening institutional preparedness for NPST

The event is expected to strengthen institutional preparedness for NPST and NMM, enable the development of State/UT-level key resource persons, and provide actionable inputs for reforms in teacher education.

“Through flagship initiatives such as NPST and NMM, NCTE continues to play a pivotal role in the planned and coordinated development of teacher education, in alignment with the objectives and spirit of the National Education Policy 2020,” the official press release said.

Addressing the gathering, chairperson, NCTE, Pankaj Arora, underscored the capacity building of stakeholders as a critical prerequisite for the effective nationwide rollout of NPST and NMM. He stated, “These initiatives are envisioned in alignment with the transformative objectives of NEP 2020 and reaffirm the national resolve towards the goal of Viksit Bharat @2047.”
