Salve is a lawyer, jurist, senior advocate, who currently serves as the King’s Counsel in England and Wales.

The National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) has appointed Harish Salve as a distinguished professor. Salve will be delivering lectures about the legal profession and practice, along with guiding the academic vision of NLU Delhi.
NLU Delhi expressed “immense delight” at Salve accepting the distinguished professorship invitation and becoming a part of the institution, said an official statement from the university. He is a “noted” lawyer, jurist, and senior advocate. Harish Salve has a “global reputation” for being an “eminent lawyer” in international commercial arbitration and litigation.
The new distinguished professor at the National Law University Delhi has served as the Solicitor General of India from 1999 to 2022. He has also represented the Government of India in various “crucial” cases. Salve currently serves as the King’s Counsel in England and Wales.

Speaking about Harish Salve’s appointment at NLU Delhi, vice chancellor G S Bajpai stated: “Mr. Salve’s association with the National Law University Delhi will be highly inspirational to the students, researchers and faculty members.”
Harish Salve, the new distinguished professor at the National Law University Delhi, is known for his practice in public international law, human rights, constitutional matters, and taxes, among other domains under the legal profession.
Recently, D Y Chandrachud, the former Chief Justice of India, joined the law university as a distinguished professor. The institution began an initiative titled “In the Spirit of Justice: The DYC Distinguished Lecture Series”. The lectures, headed by Chandrachud, began in July 2025, and aim to address modern legal challenges through the former CJI’s jurisprudence.
