NMC revises NEET UG 2025 seat matrix again; 9,075 new MBBS seats added, total rises to 1.26 lakh

The NEET UG seat matrix for MCC counselling has been revised after the Cabinet approved 10,000 new seats. A total of 456 seats have been dropped due to pending court cases.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has updated the NEET UG seat matrix for the academic year 2025-26, following the renewal of existing as well as addition of sanctioned MBBS seats. There are a total of 1,26,600 (1.26 lakh) MBBS seats in India as on October 10, 2025.
A total of 9,075 new MBBS seats were approved in the academic year 2025-26, excluding AIIMS and JIPMER. The NEET UG seat matrix 2025 was revised multiple times this year, due to changes in the approval status of seats in medical colleges.
The commission in September added 6,850 seats and dropped over 1,056 MBBS seats in view of the pending court matter, approval, and renewal, and addition of supernumerary seats.
Around 10 days later, the NMC revised the seat matrix again and announced that 7,375 seats have been sanctioned and 456 have been reduced, following the approval of 10,000 seats by the Cabinet as part of phase 3 expansion of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS).
In view of the addition of new seats, the MCC has extended the choice filling deadline to October 13. Candidates are required to submit their choices in the order of preference on the official website, mcc.nic.in.
