Download EBookThe National Medical Commission has issued the final MBBS seat matrix following the approvals granted for renewal of existing undergraduate seats along with the additional seats sanctioned for the academic session 2025-26. Over 6,850 seats have been added while more than 1,000 seats have been dropped from the NMC seat matrix 2025.
The number of MBBS seats in India has increased from 1,17,750 last year to 1,23,700. Of total, 6,850 new seats have been actually granted during the AY 2025-26. At the time of renewal, 1,056 seats were dropped as they could not be renewed.
A total of 5,794 seat changes have been made in the MBBS seat matrix 2025 due to pending court matters, granting of additional seats, approval given to establishment of college, reduction of seats during renewal, and creation of supernumerary seats.

Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum which was initially sanctioned zero seats has been granted approval for 200 seats while Index Medical College in Indore and Geetanjali Medical College in Udaipur have received 250 seats. National Capital Region Institute of Medical Sciences, Meerut will run with 150 seats.
NMC MBBS seat matrix 2025
Recently, NMC approved 2,720 MBBS seats, warning that any medical seat allotted in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2025 counselling that does not match the matrix is likely to get cancelled.
Initially, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) notified 1,15,900 MBBS seats in government, private, and other medical colleges in NEET UG 2025 seat matrix , with nine institutes with zero sanctioned seats.
