NEW DELHI: The education ministry has again extended the application deadline for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the 2024-25 academic year to November 15. Eligible students can apply for the NMMSS 2024 scholarship scheme through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), scholarship.gov.in.

“Last date for submitting applications (fresh & renewal) on National Scholarship Portal for 2024-25 under NMMSS extended till 15 November 2024,” PIB India posted on the official X account. The NSP portal has been accepting NMMSS 2024-25 applications since June 30, 2024.

Background wave

As per the official press release, the scheme provides scholarships to academically talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, aiming to reduce dropout rates after Class 8 and support them in continuing their secondary education. Each year, 1,00,000 new scholarships are awarded to selected Class 9 students, with renewal options through Classes 10 to 12.

The scheme is applicable only to students studying in State Government, Government-aided, and local body schools and the scholarship amount is Rs 12,000 per annum per student.

NMMSS Scholarship 2024-25: Registration process for renewal students

Renewal students are those who received a scholarship through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) in the previous academic year. They can only apply for renewal within the same scholarship scheme they were previously awarded, updating their marks and submitting the renewal application on NSP.

The bank account used to receive the previous scholarship must remain active for the disbursement of the renewal amount. To apply for a different scheme, students must log in using their prior application ID, withdraw the renewal application, and then register as fresh applicants for the current academic year.
