Following a violent clash between the students of MCKG Medical College and SCB Medical College, the administration cancelled the ongoing inter-college meet. Odisha Police advised the Berhampur medical college to stop the programme to avoid a ‘law and order’ situation after SCB students complained of “murderous assault”.

MKCG dean Suchitra Dash said all non-educational programmes, including the college fest, have been cancelled in the wake of “the disturbance being created by students”. The decision was reportedly taken in a college council meeting including representatives of all participating institutes. While the exact reason behind the scuffle is not known, some officials cited old rivalry among the students over holding such meets.

Several students were left reportedly injured in the brawl after stones were pelted in front of hostel number 3. They were treated in the medical facility inside the campus.

Now, students are protesting against the dean’s decision, as per some reports. The event which involved as many as 18 medical colleges in Odisha began from October 11 and was scheduled to continue till October 18.

Odisha police advisory

In a letter to the dean and principal of the host medical college, Odisha Police informed that a case has been registered and investigation is underway following the written report of SCB medical students who alleged that the members of students’ union including the president and general secretary of MKCG Medical College are responsible for the mishap.
