Punjab CM allocates Rs 27.77 crore grant to government schools affected by rain, flood

Punjab CM has sanctioned Rs 20 crore and Rs 7.77 crore for primary schools and secondary schools respectively.
NEW DELHI: The Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Maan has announced a grant of Rs 27.77 crore for the government schools affected by heavy rains and flooding in the state.
Out of the total grant, Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned for primary schools, while Rs 7.77 crore has been set aside for secondary schools. The funds will be utilized by school heads and management committees to undertake essential repairs, cleaning, painting, and other necessary tasks required to restore the schools.

The recent heavy rains and flooding have taken a toll on numerous government schools in Punjab. Many educational institutions have suffered damages, ranging from waterlogging and structural issues to damaged infrastructure and equipment.
Under the new grant, individual schools will receive funding ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 30,000. The respective school heads and management committees will be responsible for assessing the damages and prioritizing repairs accordingly.

Announcing the immediate release of the grant for the government schools, the education minister of Punjab, Harjot Singh Bains in a social media post said: “Honorable Chief Minister According to the instructions of Bhagwant Maan, a grant of Rs. 27.77 crore is being released to the government schools of Punjab which are suffering from rain and flood water with immediate effect from Rs. 5 thousand to Rs. 30 thousand per school. 20 crores have been sanctioned for primary schools and Rs 7.77 crores for secondary schools in the state. With this amount, school heads and management committees will carry out school repairs, cleaning, painting and other miscellaneous works."

The allocated funds will cover infrastructure repairs, removal of water stagnation, cleaning of premises, painting, and any other miscellaneous work required to restore the school's functionality.
