Tamil Nadu CM unveils State School Education Policy 2025; promotes bilingual learning

Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin has introduced the Tamil Nadu State Education Policy 2025. The new education policy is designed to promote bilingual learning (Tamil and English), critical thinking over rote learning, and improvements towards continuous assessment.

CM also distributed appreciation certificates and laptops to government school students who secured admissions in top education institutions across the country. While addressing the gathering, CM said 75% of Class 12 government school graduates this year entered higher education, which saw a significant increase from the previous years. CM also set a target of 100% percent enrollment going forward.

The state’s education policy also promises a new model and residential schools, smart classrooms, and expanded use of Kalvi TV and the Manarkeni app. The TN State Education Policy was launched at Anna Centenary Library, Chennai, on August 7.

TN Government school students' enrollment

According to the official Tamil Nadu education policy statement, this year, a total of 901 government school students have gained admission to 93 premier institutions, with 27 students entering the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), up from single-digit figures in past years. Over the last three years, 977 students from Tamil Nadu’s government schools have made it to top colleges.

Highlighting the government's inclusive vision, CM Stalin reaffirmed that education should be accessible to all, and no student should drop out due to circumstances. “Government schools are no longer a symbol of poverty but of pride,” he said.

The CM concluded with a message to students: “You are the real heroes. Walk into the nation’s best colleges with confidence—we are ready to celebrate your success."

Tamil Nadu State Education Policy 2025

The state education minister, Anbil Mahesh, posted on the official X account and said: “We have formulated the Tamil Nadu State Education Policy (School Education) with a vision for the future.”

The education policy promotes skills needed for a better future, shaping students into creative individuals, integrating physical education with academics, bilingual policy of Tamil and English, examinations focusing on assessments and not just marks, green schools and smart classrooms, and the establishment of model and residential schools with other learning initiatives.

TN state education policy 2025 reaffirms the state’s deep-rooted commitment to social equity in education. The policy outlines a comprehensive, child-centric vision that is all-inclusive, forward-looking, and deeply rooted in Tamil Nadu’s unique cultural, linguistic, and social heritage.
