Telangana CM orders infrastructure upgrades; mandates facial recognition in schools, colleges

HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday, emphasising the need to improve the quality of education, directed officials to upgrade infrastructure in educational institutions and implement “mandated” facial recognition for students, teaching staff, and other professionals.

Reddy, during a review meeting with education department officials, instructed them to enhance teaching facilities by improving infrastructure across all institutions, from schools to universities.

“The officials of the Education Department were instructed to introduce mandated facial recognition for students, teaching staff, and other professionals in all schools and colleges. The CM stressed that facial recognition will improve attendance and address gaps in professional educational institutions,” an official release said.

He also directed that the construction of all educational institutions be brought under the Education and Welfare Infrastructure Development Corporation (EWIDC), which already oversees the construction of the government’s Young India Integrated Residential Schools—where students from all backgrounds study together, regardless of caste or religion.

Reddy further instructed officials to clear pending mid-day meal bills through the ‘green channel’—an automatic, fast-track approval process—and warned that there should be no delays, the release added.
