Three IIT Madras professors receive Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025

Three IIT Madras professors – Thalappil Pradeep, Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam, and Shweta Prem Agrawal - were awarded for their contributions to science, tech innovation. Check out the full list of Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025.
Three IIT Madras professors received the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025, the country's top honour for distinguished and inspiring achievements by scientists, technologists, and innovators in various fields of science, technology and technology-driven innovation, declared by the Government of India.
This year’s announcement recognised professors Thalappil Pradeep, Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam, and Shweta Prem Agrawal for their outstanding contributions in various fields of science, technology, and technology-led innovations.
The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar recognises outstanding achievements and lifetime work that have contributed to the country's scientific and technological strength.

Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar: IIT Madras awardees
Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar is awarded under four categories – Vigyan Ratna (VR), Vigyan Shri (VS), Vigyan Yuva – Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (VY-SSB), and Vigyan Team (VT).
Among the three IIT Madras awardees, Thalappil Pradeep, Department of Chemistry, received the Vigyan Shri Puraskar; while Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam, Department of Electrical Engineering, and Shweta Prem Agrawal, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, received the Vigyan Yuva – Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Puraskar.
The awards cover 13 fields – physics, chemistry, biological sciences, mathematics and computer science, earth science, medicine, engineering sciences, agricultural science, environmental science, technology & innovation, atomic energy, space science and technology and allied science.
