UGC identifies 54 state private universities for non-compliance with public self-disclosure norms

UGC norms on public self-disclosure states that the higher education institutions must maintain a functional website to provide relevant information to students and general public.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 54 state private universities that have not submitted the information under section 13 of the UGC Act, 1956 or have not uploaded the public self-disclosure information on their respective official website.

Citing several reminders through e-mails and online meetings, the UGC said the universities had been directed to submit detailed information for inspection purposes, along with supporting documents duly attested by the registrar, within the stipulated period.

“They were also directed to upload the filled-in format and appendices on their website by giving a link on the home page so that the information is accessible to the students and the general public. The above was followed by several reminders through e-mails and online meetings,” according to the official statement by the UGC.

The commission has requested the identified universities to immediately comply with the directions issued by the UGC .

According to the guidelines on public self-disclosure, the higher education institutions should have to maintain a functional website to provide relevant information to stakeholders.

“The information disclosed on the website should be easily accessible to everyone, on the home page, without any need for registration or login. Additionally, there should be a 'search' facility available for easy navigation. at the website at link,” the guidelines reads.

The universities were also directed to submit a soft copy only in the prescribed format available on the UGC’s official website at ugc.gov.in.

Among the 54 universities, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of colleges violating UGC norms on public self-disclosure.
