UGC’s list of 22 fake institutions across all states

University Grants Commission: Under the UGC Regulations Act, these institutions are not authorised to confer degrees, and any qualification from such colleges or institutes is invalid.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared 22 institutions as fake, which were functioning without any proper recognition. Under UGC regulations act, these institutions are not authorised to confer degrees, and any qualification from such colleges or institutes is invalid.
“The right of conferring or granting degrees shall be exercised only by a university or incorporated by or under a central act, a provincial act, or a state act, or an institution deemed to be a university under Section 3, or an institution specially empowered by an Act of Parliament to confer or grant degrees,” the official UGC notice reads.
Recently, UGC warned about a fake university running in Delhi, the Institute of Management and Training, and another university in Kerala, known as the International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine. The university in Kerala’s Calicut is neither recognised nor empowered to award any degree as per the UGC regulations, as per the official UGC notice.
Earlier in July, UGC alerted students and parents not to fall prey to fake advertisements offering degrees in the name of the ‘University of Colombo.’ As per the official UGC notice, the university is not authorised to offer any undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), or doctoral degree courses.

According to the official UGC update, the number of fake institutions is in Delhi with Maharashtra and Puducherry at the lowest.
