UGC urges universities to consider Vedic Board qualifications for admissions

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged the higher education institutions to consider the newly established Vedic Board for admission to their programmes. The Ministry of Education recognized the Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Sanskrit Shiksha Board (MSRVSSB) as a regular school board two years ago.

Under the new board formed by the Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Vidyan Pratisthan (MSRVVP), the Veda Bhushan course will be equivalent to Class 10 while Veda Vibhushan course will be parallel to Class 12. The certificates awarded by the board will be equivalent to the certificates issued by other boards for university admissions and recruitment in various central and state government bodies.

“This is in reference to the communication received from the Ministry of Education regarding establishment of Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Sanskrit Shiksha Board (MSRVSSB) and the equivalence of its certificates to those issued by other Central/State School Boards of India for the purposes of admission to higher education institutions and employment in Central/State Government organizations, for information and further appropriate action,” said UGC in an official notice.
“All the Universities and Higher Education Institutions are requested to take note of it and take all necessary action, in compliance,” it added.

School boards in India

The Association of Indian Universities (AIU), which is the body designated by the government to accord equivalence to school boards in India, granted the equivalence to the board for Class 10, 12 board exam qualifications and to function as a regular school board. The organisation was advised to apply to AIU for obtaining the approval.

The Department of School Education and Literacy had, in consultation with the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT), agreed with the bye-laws and statutory requirements for the board.
