Union cabinet gives nod to paper leak draft bill

Moreover, the union cabinet has approved a paper leak draft bill for stricter punishment against those involved in the exam paper leaks. The nod by the cabinet comes after PM Modi's video message on July 23, announcing a bill containing provisions for strong action against paper leaks will be introduced in Parliament next week.

Delhi HC constitutes fast-track court

CJP on July 23 turned down the Centre's invitation for talks at Union Health Minister JP Nadda's residence or office, saying any discussion should take place only at a neutral venue. Later, the government agreed to the CJP's request for a neutral venue and selected the Constitution Club of India to host the talks.

The second round of talks between the Centre and CJP ended with the government seeking more time to consider the party's demand for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. Speaking after the meeting, CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the Centre has asked for time till July 25 afternoon. He also said the government has given its in-principle approval to providing compensation to the families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide and withdrawing FIRs and legal cases filed against students.

Ahead of the CJP protest, the Delhi Police Commissioner was granted powers under the National Security Act (NSA) to order preventive detentions. Police described the move as a routine extension of existing powers.

Meanwhile, security remains tight around Jantar Mantar, where restrictions, traffic diversions and internet suspension continue. Student organisations and opposition groups across several states have announced solidarity demonstrations, while the Bar Council of India has appealed to professionals to engage with students and discourage violence.

Maharashtra also witnessed support for the CJP-led movement, with Shiv Sena (UBT) announcing a 'Tiranga Morcha'. The party said the march would be held in solidarity with students demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation.

The protests also echoed in Bihar, where the Assembly was adjourned amid uproar over the previous day's student demonstrations in Patna. AISA has called for Bihar Bandh today. Check state-wise update of protest here.
