Uttarakhand: All schools, anganwadis in Almora to remain closed on September 1 after IMD heavy rainfall alert

IMD Dehradun has issued a forecast of heavy to very heavy rains accompanied by lightning in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts.

All schools from Classes 1 to 12, including Anganwadi centers, in Almora district will remain closed on September 1 due to an IMD forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall, the state government said in its latest order.

A weather forecast released by the Indian Meteorological Department Dehradun on August 31 at 1 pm, stated that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains accompanied by lightning in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts.

“According to the forecast, due to heavy rainfall, various types of disasters such as landslides, flash floods, boulder falls, waterlogging, and road closure etc. can occur,” the official order stated.

“In order to prevent any untoward incident, it has been decided to declare a one-day holiday on 01st September 2025 in all government, semi-government and private schools (all educational institutions running from class 1 to 12) and all Anganwadi centers of the district,” it added.

Following this, the chief education officer, Almora, has been directed to inform all government, government-aided, and private schools from Classes 1 to 12 and Anganwadi centres to remain closed on Monday.

It also warned of strict action, if any school decides to open the schools on September 1.
