The Victoria Institute of Technology (VIT), Australia, has proposed to establish an “International Education City” in Telangana. The planned campus will be developed on a plug-and-play model, offering fully prepared spaces for international universities, research centres, and skill development institutions.

The move is a major step forward in positioning Telangana as a global destination for higher education and research.

Telangana IT and industries minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, during his official visit to Australia, met Alan Griffin VIT board member, former Australian parliamentarian, and ex-parliamentary secretary to the prime minister, and a close associate of the current Australian prime minister.

The minister highlighted Telangana’s progressive education and industry policies, improving digital infrastructure, and skilled youth ecosystem, positioning the state as an ideal destination for global academic partnerships.

VIT representatives, including founder and president Arjun Surapaneni, expressed interest in developing a world-class education and innovation hub in Telangana that aligns with international standards and global research collaborations.

By welcoming the proposal, the Telangana minister assured to offer full support from the state government and also invited the VIT delegation to visit for site evaluation and detailed discussions.

Telangana, RMIT University partnership

The state government has also partnered with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) Australia for research. The partnership will drive joint research, innovation, and skill development across research and development, higher education, and industry collaboration — with a focus on creating an industry-ready global workforce in life sciences.

Under the new partnership, joint PhD programmes, student and faculty exchange initiatives, and collaborative research projects will be introduced. RMIT University and BITS Hyderabad will guide students and researchers to enable them to pursue world-class research in emerging domains. With inputs from PTI
