The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has introduced new rules for Class 11 supplementary examination, especially for those who failed in semester 2. Under the new rule, students who fail to clear the Class 11 Semester 2 exams will be allowed to appear for supplementary exams within one month to clear their backlog subjects.

Until now, students who failed in any subject or a single paper in semester 1 were allowed to appear for a supplementary exam along with the Semester 2 exams in the same academic year.

Additionally, the new provision now allows those who fail in semester 2 to appear for supplementary exams in the failed subjects within one month—a rule that did not exist earlier. The modification will apply for the academic year 2024–25 as well.

“Modified Regulation '8' would be effective from Academic Year 2024-2025 on post-facto basis as a special case. All HOIs are requested to do needful to implement different aspects of Regulation '8' with immediate effect,” the council said.

This means that students who appeared for the West Bengal Class 11 semester 2 exams in 2025 but did not pass will get a chance to reappear.

However, if a student fails the supplementary exams, he or she will have to repeat all subjects from Semester 1 and Semester 2 in the next academic year.
