AICTE's model curriculum was developed after consultation with the Armed Forces, industry, DRDO, and academia to integrate national priorities with higher education.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has rolled out a model curriculum for minor degrees for undergraduate engineering and technology programmes in defence technology. The new curriculum will equip students with the skills to work in the defence sector, AICTE chairman TG Sitharam said.
The model curriculum was launched by Sitharam in the presence of other council members and president of the Aeronautical Society of India and members of the curriculum committee. Speaking at the event, Sitharam highlighted the urgent need to create a strong talent pipeline in defence technologies.
He urged the top 200 well-performing technical institutions to "proactively" adopt the model curriculum to create an ecosystem for students to explore, innovate, and lead in the field of defence technologies.
The curriculum is designed to equip engineering students with specialized knowledge in aeronautical systems, naval technologies, weapon systems, cybersecurity, and advanced materials.
