In the first phase of AICTE internship, students will receive a stipend of Rs 10,000.
NEW DELHI: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have come together to offer 5,000 paid internships to civil engineering students.
The internship will be conducted in online mode to provide hands-on experience to engineering students across India. AICTE has also created a dedicated web portal for the students to apply for the internship.
The students will get the opportunity to work on real time problems on NHAI projects. According to MP Poonia, vice-chairman, AICTE, the internship opportunity will give students the necessary industry exposure in their domain.
In the first phase of internship, selected students will receive a stipend of Rs.10,000 for two months. Based on the first phase experience, NHAI intends to increase the number of internships for the benefit of the student community.
Like medical education where internship is a crucial part of the curriculum, AICTE has made internships mandatory for engineering students as well.
Earlier, AICTE also launched an online internship program in collaboration with six overseas companies for students willing to join the oil and gas industry. Under this program, one lakh internship opportunities will be provided.
