AICTE partners with OpenAI to provide 1.5 lakh free ChatGPT Go licenses to educational institutions

OpenAI has also joined hands with IIT Madras with an infusion of $500,000 (approximately Rs 4.41 crore) to conduct studies on artificial intelligence learning outcomes.
The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and OpenAI have signed an agreement to provide 1,50,000 free ChatGPT Go licenses for 6 months to its students and faculty members. The partnership aimed to strengthen digital skills, employability, and practical AI use at AICTE-affiliated public institutions across the country.
The Ministry of Education has also collaborated with OpenAI to enable access to ChatGPT for teachers of classes 1 to 12 in government schools, according to the OpenAI's official website.
Stating importance of advanced artificial intelligence tools to accelerate innovation, enhance learning experiences, TG Sitharam, chairman, AICTE , said: “AI is not just transforming technology, it’s redefining how we shape the future of our technical workforce. At AICTE, we are integrating AI across disciplines and focusing on hands-on, industry-relevant training for both students and faculty.”
“OpenAI, a progressive leader in the field of Artificial Intelligence, is driving innovation through its state-of-the-art tools and high-end computing capabilities, making AI education more accessible than ever. Leveraging such advanced tools will enable us to accelerate innovation, enhance learning experiences, and build a future-ready technical ecosystem,” Sitharaman added.

OpenAI, IIT Madras collaboration
Moreover, OpenAI has also joined hands with IIT Madras with an infusion of $500,000 (approximately Rs 4.41 crore) to conduct studies on artificial intelligence learning outcomes, according to a report published on OpenAI's official website.
The engineering institute will conduct long-term studies on how AI can improve learning outcomes, drive innovation and teaching methods, aligned to insights from cognitive neuroscience, the report added.
Additionally, over the next six months, the OpenAI will distribute approximately half a million ChatGPT licenses and training to educators and students across India through several partnerships, the report said.
According to Raghav Gupta, head of education for India and Asia pacific, “There is huge potential to work closely with educators and institutions across India, and I’m thrilled to join OpenAI to lead our educational initiatives here and across the APAC region.”
“By working closely with universities, schools, government bodies, and educators, we have an opportunity to truly transform education through AI, driving better learning outcomes, while supporting India’s ambitions to be a global leader in AI-enabled education,” he added, citing a report by OpenAI.
