Ayodhya Ram Temple Ceremony: Jamia Millia Islamia to remain shut for half-day on January 22

JMI will observe a half-day closure till 2:30 pm. This decision extends to the University, its maintained institutions, centres, offices, and Jamia schools.
NEW DELHI: The Jamia Millia Islamia University (JMI) Delhi will remain closed for half-day on January 22 in view of Ram Temple Pran Pratishtha event in Ayodhya. As per the circular issued by the JMI on Friday, the university will remain shut till 2:30 pm.
"The officiating Vice-Chancellor, JMI, in view of the Govt. of India...has approved that the University and its maintained Institutions/Centres/Office including Jamia schools shall remain closed for half day (till 2.30 pm) on 22nd January, 2024 on account of Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha at Avodhya," the circular stated.
However, examinations, meetings that are already scheduled will be held as usual, the university added. This decision extends to the University, its maintained institutions, centres, offices, and Jamia schools.

To mark the occasion, several states announced half-day or public holiday on the day to let government employees witness the consecration on television or take part in local religious events.
Haryana and Rajasthan declared a half-day off for its employees, and the day was declared a public holiday in Maharashtra, Puducherry and Chandigarh.
So far these include Maharashtra, Haryana, and Uttarakhand while Union Territories like Puducherry and Chandigarh have also declared an off. Some states including Kerala, Assam, Odisha, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Tripura have announced a half-day for government offices on January 22.
