IIT Kanpur faculty Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi appointed BHU vice-chancellor

BHU Varanasi: Chaturvedi was previously a faculty member of the electrical engineering department at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur.
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Varanasi has appointed Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi as vice chancellor. Chaturvedi was previously a faculty member of the electrical engineering department at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur.
He has been appointed for a term of three years from the date on which he enters his office or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier. The appointment was approved by the ministry of education, government of India.
He was previously appointed as the director of IIT Roorkee from 2017 to 2022, IIT Mandi from 2020 to 2022, and the Indian Institute of Advanced Study from January 2017 to 2018.
Chaturvedi did his specialisation in communications theory and systems. He completed his Phd in electrical engineering (EE) in 1995, MTech EE in 1988, and BTech EE in 1986 from IIT Kanpur .
He was honored with the ‘Distinguished Teacher’ award of IIT Kanpur in 2007, Tan Chin Tuan Fellowship at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore in 2008. In 2023, he was conferred the Institute Fellow Award by IIT Kanpur in recognition of his contributions to research, teaching, and academic leadership.
He was also the Mentor of the team that won the Microsoft Award for Innovation at the World Finals of the IEEE Computer Society International Design Contest in 2002.
