BMW Group, Smile Foundation launch 'STEM on Wheels' mobile labs for rural students in Delhi-NCR

The STEM initiative will target 25 schools in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram. The mobile app will be launched to reach rural students studying in Class 6 and 8 in Delhi-NCR.
NEW DELHI: The BMW India Foundation has collaborated with the Smile Foundation to implement a new science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education initiative for Class 6, 8 students in 25 schools, including 5 government aided, and 20 community institutions in underprivileged, low-income communities of Delhi-NCR.
Under the new initiative, the BMW Group will engage with schools in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurugram. The group will also provide STEM education and skills development to over 2,500 students each year.
Vikram Pawah, president and CEO, BMW Group India said: “BMW India Foundation is committed to empowering the next generation through education and innovation. The new STEM learning initiative launched for Delhi NCR marks a step towards bridging the skills gap in our communities. By providing state-of-the-art laboratories and mobile STEM education, creativity and problem-solving skills will be inculcated in young minds.”
“This initiative prepares students for a technology-driven future and promotes inclusivity in STEM fields, particularly for underprivileged children. Together, we are nurturing a generation of thinkers and innovators who will drive India’s economic growth and technological advancement," Pawah added.

"STEM on Wheels" mobile lab, other equipments
The new STEM initiative will also establish advanced labs in government schools and launch “STEM on Wheels” mobile lab to reach students in remote community schools, the BMW India Foundation said. Both the labs will be equipped with the latest apparatus, testing devices, digital tools, small robotic models, learning kits and much more, it added.
Workshops, annual science fair and innovation challenge will also be part of the new STEM initiative.
In addition, teachers will also be provided with training for effective instructions. “In line with India’s National Education Policy, which places a strong emphasis on STEM education, the initiative aims to increase interest in STEM disciplines at an early age,” the foundation said
Furthermore, the BMW Group has also been working with UNICEF to develop the educational landscape in India, it added.
