CBSE Certificate: Of the 17 lakh students who appeared in the Class 12 board exam 2025, only 38,386 - 2.2% - applied for a hard copy for their migration certification, indicating a shift toward digital adoption.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that it will no longer issue physical copies of migration certificates for Classes 10 and 12 students from the 2025 board exam cycle.
The digitally signed version of the certificate will be made available through the DigiLocker platform, which will be accepted as a valid document by all higher educational institutions (HEIs).
The move was part of the directive from the University Grants Commission (UGC) on January 3, 2022, which asked universities to accept digital certificates uploaded on the National Academic Depository (NAD) and DigiLocker platform as legally valid documents.
According to the data shared by the board, out of 17,04,367 students who appeared in the Class 12 board exam 2025, only 38,386 applied for a hard copy for their migration certification. This means that only 2.2% requested for a physical copy, indicating a shift toward digital adoption.

The CBSE said that the students will no longer have to pay a fee to obtain their migration certificate. The board will automatically upload their certificate after the announcement of results on the Digilocker website, which can be accessed through the candidate portal.
During the transition phase, students who require the hard copy of their migration certificate will be allowed to request it through the CBSE’s Duplicate Academic Document System (DADS) portal at cbseit.in/cbse/web/dads/List.aspx. Such requests will be processed and dispatched by the board as per the student’s application.
