CEED 2026 registration begins for MDes, PhD; apply by October 31

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has begun the registrations for the Common Entrance Exam for Design 2026 (CEED) from today, October 1. Candidates seeking admissions to MDes and PhD programmes can register for the CEED 2026 through the official website at ceed.iitb.ac.in.

The CEED 2026 online registrations will close on October 31. Candidates will get another chance to fill the application form with late fees, as the portal will remain open until November 7, 2025 at 5 pm. The requisite late fee will be Rs 500.

Candidates are advised to use a laptop or desktop with the latest version of Chrome or Firefox browser to access the CEED 2026 registration form.

The CEED 2026 is conducted to assess the candidate’s aptitude for design involving visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity, communication, and problem solving skills.

The entrance test will be conducted by IIT Bombay for admission to Master of Design (MDes) programmes at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, IIITDM Jabalpur, IIIT DM Kancheepuram and PhD programmes at several IITs and design schools.

Notably, the CEED 2026 score is valid for one year from the date of declaration of the result. The engineering institute will conduct the CEED 2026 on January 18 in a single shift from 9 am to 12 noon. The test will consist of two parts - A and B.

The charges for CEED 2026 registration form for women, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates is Rs 2,000.

The registration fees for all other candidates is Rs 4,000.

CEED 2026: Exam pattern, marking scheme

The part A of the question paper will consist of 150 marks, conducted through a computer-based test. It will consist of three sections. While part B will be held for 100 marks, and include five questions to test candidates’ design, drawing and writing skills.

Questions here will be displayed on the computer screen and the answer should be written in the answer book provided by the invigilator.

“In the case of PwD candidates availing the use of a scribe, assistance in attempting Part-B is not permitted, as the question is aimed at evaluating their drawing skill,” the official brochure reads.

Here is the list given below to describe the marking scheme of CEED 2026.

  • Full Marks: Candidates will be given four marks if only all the correct options is (are) chosen and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.
  • Partial Marks: Three marks will be awarded if all the four options are correct but only three options are chosen.
  • Partial Marks: If three or more options are correct but only two options are chosen, both of which are correct and none of the incorrect options is chosen, candidates will be awarded two marks.
  • Partial Marks: One mark will be awarded if two or more options are correct but only one option is chosen and it is a correct option and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.
  • Zero Marks: No marks or zero mark will be given if none of the options is chosen or unanswered.
  • Negative Marks: One mark will be deducted for each wrong answer in all other cases.
