J-K gets Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence which aims to upgrade to 100 MBBS seats.
Centre has approved a new medical college in Jammu and Kashmir with 50 MBBS seats, the office of Lieutenant Governor (LG) informed via social media. The J-K government thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister for health and family welfare JP Nadda for giving the go-ahead to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME).
“Grateful to Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon'ble Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri J.P. Nadda Ji for sanctioning 50 MBBS seats for newly established Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME),” the LG office said in a post.
Expressing joy over the move, the governor office stated that the decision not only fulfills the resolve of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board to provide “world-class” medical education in J-K but also the government’s objectives to improve healthcare access, increasing highly skilled medical professionals in underserved areas.
According to the LG office, the Shrine Board in its 71st meeting held on August 19, 2023 had granted an in-principle approval for establishment of a 50-seat medical college at Kakryal, with a long term plan for upgradation to 100 seats.
