Centre, Coal India to upgrade 76 Eklavya Schools across 4 states benefitting over 30,000 tribal students

As part of the initiative, the Coal India Limited will provide a total of 1,200 computers, and UPS units each, 110 tablets, 420 sanitary pad vending machines, and incinerators each in the Eklavya Schools across four states.
In a significant step towards betterment of tribal students, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Coal India Limited (CIL) have joined hands to upgrade the infrastructure and total capacity of 76 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) across Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha.
The government, through this initiative is aiming to benefit over 30,000 tribal students by inclusion of technology-driven, and holistic educational schemes. An agreement was signed between CIL and National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC), under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
“CIL has sanctioned ₹10 crore for the project , which will be implemented by NSTFDC in a time-bound manner,” according to the official statement by the ministry.
According to the data by the ministry, there are around 479 EMRS across the country, providing quality education, nutrition, health care, and overall development opportunities for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students.
“These schools are a flagship intervention of the Ministry to empower tribal students by enabling them to access higher education and gainful employment,” the official statement reads.

CIL Allocates Rs 10 crore for School project
As part of the collaborations, the Coal India Limited will support the ministry under its CSR initiatives by providing educational tools in 76 EMRS. The residential schools will be equipped with 1,200 computers, and UPS units each, 110 tablets, 420 sanitary pad vending machines, and incinerators each.
The CIL will also provide counselling and mentorship to more than 6,200 students of Classes 10 and 12.
In addition, computer labs will be established to strengthen digital learning and open news opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
In order to enhance the retention and performance of girl students, benefits of menstrual health and hygiene will be taught.
