CLAT 2026 registration begins for LLB, LLM admission; eligibility criteria, application fee

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has begun the registration process for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026 today, August 1. The CLAT 2026 exam will be conducted on December 7 in a single shift from 2 pm to 4 pm. CLAT 2026 LIVE

Eligible candidates can register for the CLAT 2026 through the official website at consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The last date to register for the CLAT 2026 exam is October 31. To apply for CLAT 2026, candidates will have to first register using a valid mobile number and email ID on the official website. After OTP verification, they can log in to fill out the application form.

To complete the CLAT 2026 registration, candidates will have to pay the application fee of Rs 4,000 for General and Other Backwards Classes (OBC) candidates. Candidates from the Scheduled Caste (SC), the Scheduled Tribe (ST), and the Below Poverty Line (BPL) categories are required to pay Rs 3,500

An additional amount of Rs 500 is charged for accessing previous years’ question papers, which is not included in the application fee. The CLAT 2026 exam is conducted for admission to the 5-year integrated Bachelor of Legislative Law (LLB) and 1-year Master of Laws (LLM) programmes offered by 24 NLUs.

CLAT 2026 eligibility criteria

The CLAT 2026 eligibility criteria for both UG and PG programmes are given below.

CLAT eligibility for 5-year LLB course

  • Candidates should have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination with at least 45% marks for General, OBC, PwD, NRI, PIO, and OCI categories, and 40% marks for SC and ST categories.
  • Candidates appearing for the Class 12 or equivalent examination in March or April 2026 are eligible to apply for CLAT 2026. However, they will have to produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination at the time of admission.

CLAT eligibility for LLM course

  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or an equivalent qualification with a minimum of 50% marks or an equivalent grade for those belonging to General, OBC, PwD, NRI, PIO, or OCI categories. For candidates from the SC or ST categories, a minimum of 45% marks or an equivalent grade is required.
  • Candidates appearing in their final year LLB examination in April or May 2026 are also eligible to apply.
  • There is no upper age limit for candidates applying to the undergraduate, postgraduate programmes through CLAT 2026.
