CSJMU Kanpur introduces BA in philosophy; tuition fee, career prospects

CSJMU Kanpur: The tuition fee for BA philosophy (hons) is Rs 19,200 for one year. Students can opt for careers in counselling, human resources, skills training, and other fields.
The Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU) Kanpur has introduced a new BA honours philosophy programme. Earlier, the philosophy programme was chosen only for the teaching profession. However, philosophy students can opt for careers in various fields, including life skills training, public sector, counselling, human resources, and much more. The tuition fee for the philosophy course is Rs 19,200 (for one year).
According to the CSJMU Kanpur official statement, philosophy was once considered suitable only for the teaching profession, but has now left behind all old concepts and has emerged as the choice of toppers.
Students who opted for philosophy are winning in various fields, from research to the corporate sector, law, bio medicine , and green development management.
“In fact, philosophy has returned as a subject that gives direction to career along with knowledge. Not only this, due to the short syllabus, most students now choose philosophy for success in administrative competitive examinations. Philosophy has also been included as a compulsory subject in law and management courses,” the CSJMU Kanpur statement said.

Opting for a BA in philosophy (honours) now opens opportunities for growth in careers opportunities in various career fields as listed below.
- Teaching: There are plenty of teaching opportunities available in schools, colleges, management institutes, central universities, including the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs).
- Human Resource: Multinational Corporations (MNCs) hire philosophy experts to asses the depth of thoughts and behaviour of applicants.
- Public Sector: Career roles in the civil services, government, health services, police forces, and armed forces are also among the options for the candidates. All of these sectors have many administrative and other office-based roles.
- Research: PhD scholars can also work with international institutions such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
- Life Skills Training: Philosophy students are in high demand as life skills trainers.
- Counselling: Having a deeper perspective after studying philosophy, students can pursue careers such as a relationship counsellor, spiritual counsellor or life management counsellor.
