Thanking the CM for the initiative, DU said in a post on X, "The University of Delhi sincerely thanks the Hon’ble CM of Delhi for launching E-Buses & U-Special buses dedicated to DU students. This initiative will strengthen sustainable transport & benefit thousands of young learners."
The electric buses under the special travel service will operate on more than 25 routes, with halts at important destinations like metro stations. "While the previous government used to make U-turns, our government is always in forward gear, taking Delhi forward," Gupta told PTI. U-Special buses used to be a lifeline of the university, in which thousands of students commuted to their colleges, but the service was stopped, she noted.

The Delhi government will increase the number of U-Special buses regularly, Gupta said, adding that the e-buses with zero pollution would help with the government's steps to fight pollution. The DU alumnus said that in the last six months, the BJP government has been working hard to take Delhi forward and make life easier for its people.
After the inauguration of the U-Special EV bus service from the Delhi University Sports Complex, the CM, pouring in her joy said, "When I left the university in 1998, this U-Special had taken with it the sweetest memories of my college days. Today, as I return among you, I have also brought along the U-Special equipped with AC, FM radio, panic button, and state-of-the-art facilities for you...This is not just a bus, but a moving world of friendship, chit-chat, and laughter. Where we used to sit on the stairs and play antakshari, you will listen to FM today, but the emotions will remain the same."
"Now, this U-Special will take you safely and conveniently from the college gate to your home. Our government is also working on metro passes for students, so that both education and travel become seamless," Gupta added.
Delhi transport minister Pankaj Singh said all the U-Special buses were electric and air conditioned, equipped with CCTV cameras and panic buttons for the safety of students. The students can also listen to their favourite songs in these buses using QR codes, he added.
