Delhi University vice chancellor briefs vice president on academic, research, infrastructure plans

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi met the Vice President of India, CP Radhakrishnan, who is the ex officio Chancellor of the University, on October 8, 2025. The Vice Chancellor briefed the Vice President on the current status of the University and future plans.

During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor outlined the University’s student enrolment figures, highlighting the participation of women. He also described the academic programs, quality of teaching, research activities, and ongoing initiatives to expand campuses and establish new colleges.

According to the official press release, the vice chancellor also shared information about infrastructure development, including hostels, libraries, ICT facilities, and the establishment of new campuses.

The University states that the Vice President expressed satisfaction with the University’s overall functioning. He acknowledged the University’s role in promoting education and encouraged the administration to strengthen efforts toward creating awareness against substance abuse, including the use of drugs and tobacco, among students.

Focus on sports and student participation

Radhakrishnan also advised the University to enhance its focus on sports facilities and promote student participation in various athletic activities. He noted that involvement in sports helps in building a competitive and constructive approach among students, contributing to their holistic development as citizens.

“He also suggested the Vice Chancellor to adduce due importance to the availability of sports facilities within the campuses and create an atmosphere where the students are encouraged to participate in various sports activities which has the potential to enhance the horizon of thought process and development of competitive spirit among the students which will help them to become worthy citizens of this Great Nation, Bharat,” the official press release said.

The vice president also urged the teaching staff to focus on research initiatives relevant to current societal and academic needs and encouraged students to consider research as a career option. The meeting concluded with several decisions aimed at supporting the University’s future development under the Chancellor’s guidance.
