NEW DELHI: The union minister of consumer affairs, food, and public distribution and new and renewable energy Pralhad Joshi has launched ‘Anna Chakra’ a PDS supply chain optimization tool and inter-state route optimization tool today, on December 5.

The tool was launched during an event conducted by the department of food and public distribution (DFPD) at Bharat Mandapam in the presence of members from union and state governments, the United Nations World Food Programme, and IIT Delhi.

According to the IIT Delhi statement, the ‘Anna Chakra’ tools were developed by the Public Systems Lab (PSL) at IIT Delhi in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP). The tool development represents an advancement in India’s efforts to improve food security through technology-driven solutions.

About ‘Anna Chakra’ supply chain optimization tool

The tool leverages algorithms based on operations research (OR) and artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize the massive Public Distribution System (PDS) supply chain across the country, and also serves as a lifeline for more than 81 crore beneficiaries, the IIT Delhi statement adds.

The launch of the new tool marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards a sustainable future.

According to the IIT Delhi statement, the impact of the effort is exceptional and it is estimated that there will be cost savings of Rs 250 crores annually with zero capital expenditure, and also reduced emissions contributing to India’s global commitments.

Additionally, the ‘Anna Chakra’ tool is integrated with the PM Gati Shakti platform which showcases its versatility for logistics planning and optimization.

Moreover, IIT Delhi aspires to expand supply chain optimization, spread the success story, and collaborate with public systems all over, underscoring its commitment to national development and large-scale impact, the IIT Delhi statement added.
