NEW DELHI: 12.6 percent of students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, who graduated this year, chose alternative career options than on-campus placements, according to an exit survey conducted by the IIT for graduates of 2024-25. Over 13% of IITD students went for higher studies.

Of those who received their degrees in August 2024, 1,411 students, 53.1%, responded in the survey that they have received a job offer in the campus placements 2024.

Claiming that not all students are interested in securing jobs through the institute and are exploring diverse employment opportunities, IIT Delhi reported that 224 (8.4%) students were self-employed, 45 (1.7%) students were working for a start-up and 66 (2.5%) students were involved in entrepreneurship.

47 (1.8%) of PhD students informed that they are waiting for a post-doctoral research opportunity or for a faculty position.

IIT Delhi: Placements, exam preparation

The IIT Delhi survey also found out that 321 students are preparing for competitive examinations such as civil services, engineering services, and exams required for different government jobs.

Moreover, 134 students (~ 5%) reported that they were still looking for appropriate career opportunities.

The IIT Delhi exit survey included responses of 1,001 BTech graduates, 529 MTech, 129 dual degree (BTech and MTech), 212 MSc, 113 MBA, 481 PhD and joint PhD, 51 PG Diploma, 91 MS Research. 25 students from MDes programme and 24 from Master of Public Policy (MPP) also recorded their responses.
