GATE 2026 exam on February 7, 8, 14, 15; IIT Guwahati introduces new energy science paper

GATE 2026 exam will be conducted on February 7 and 8 and February 14 and 15.

GATE 2026 will be conducted for a total of 30 test papers comprising full and sectional papers. IIT Guwahati has introduced a new sectional paper on Energy Science (XE-1) in engineering science (XE) paper.
A candidate will be permitted to appear for one or up to two test papers. However, only specific two-paper combinations will be allowed, similar to last year. The validity of GATE score will remain for a period of three years from the date of result announcement.
As per the GATE exam date 2026, the institute will administer the entrance exam in two shifts – forenoon session from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and afternoon session from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm – on February 4, 5, 14, and 15. The GATE 2026 official website has been launched and the registration window will open on August 25.
There is no major change in the GATE 2026 exam pattern, except for the introduction of a new sectional paper in energy science.
The institute is yet to announce the application process, required documents, and list of exam cities. Candidates can check the GATE eligibility criteria here.
GATE 2025 eligibility criteria
Anyone with a bachelor’s degree, including BSc, BA, BCom degrees, seeking admission to master’s programs in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), will be eligible to apply. The degree-wise eligibility criteria for GATE 2026 is given below.
