The GATE 2026 information brochure containing the details such as exam date, eligibility criteria, syllabus, application fee, question paper pattern, marking scheme, number of subjects will be released soon on the GATE 2026 official website, along with the frequently asked questions.
As per the GATE eligibility criteria, candidate studying in the third or final year of any undergraduate degree programme or those who have completed any government-approved degree programme in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, humanities are eligible to appear for the exam.
GATE exam comprises 30 test papers. The applicant will be allowed to appear for up to two test papers. A new paper on data science and artificial intelligence has been added to the list of subjects recently.

GATE exam is for?
As per GATE 2026 exam pattern, the test will be conducted in the computer-based test mode. The duration of the exam will be three hours. The GATE 2026 question paper will contain questions on general aptitude and subjects selected by the applicant during the registration. Each question will carry one or two marks and there will be a negative marking, according to the marking scheme.
GATE exam is held every year to assess candidate for comprehensive understanding in various undergraduate-level subjects in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, humanities for admission to various MTech and doctoral programmes and recruitment by some Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
