The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will close the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 registration window to register without a late fee today, October 6. Eligible candidates can register for the GATE 2026 through the official website at gate2026.iitg.ac.in without paying any late fee.

Candidates who miss the regular deadline will be required to pay an additional late fee to complete the GATE 2026 registration. As per the official schedule, the last date to apply for GATE 2026 with a late fee is October 9.

Earlier, the last date for GATE 2026 registration was September 25, which was later extended to September 28. The closing date for the extended online registration process with a late fee was initially set as October 6.

The GATE 2026 examination will be conducted on February 7, 8, 14, and 15. Candidates will be allowed to make changes in category, paper, and examination city, add a new test paper, or modify personal details till November 6, 2025. GATE 2026 admit cards will be available for download from January 2, 2026, and the results will be announced on March 19, 2026.

GATE 2026: Financial assistance

As per the official website, a valid GATE score can be used to seek admission to Master’s and direct Doctoral programmes in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, and Humanities. The GATE score is also applicable for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches offered by institutions supported by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and other government agencies.

Students admitted to Master of Technology (MTech) programmes through GATE are eligible for financial assistance of Rs 12,400 per month, provided for a duration of 22 months. Further details are available under the PG Scholarship (GATE/GPAT) scheme.

For Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes, including direct PhD after Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Bachelor of Technology (BTech), or Master of Science (MSc) equivalent qualifications with a valid GATE score, candidates are eligible for financial assistance.

The assistance amounts to Rs 37,000 per month for the first two years and Rs 42,000 per month from the third to fifth year, as per the Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure.
