The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has revised the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 registration dates. As per the revised date, the GATE 26 registration window will now open on August 28, 2025.

The institute has also revised the deadline to register for the GATE 2026. Eligible candidates can register for GATE 2026 till September 28, 2025, through the official website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in. Earlier, the registration was scheduled to begin on August 25, 2025, and the last date to apply was September 25.
The application process includes creating a login ID, filling in personal and academic details, uploading required documents, paying the application fee, and submitting the form. Candidates who miss this window can apply during the extended registration period from September 29 to October 9, 2025, by paying the applicable late fee.
GATE 2026 exam from February 7
The institute has not made any changes to the GATE 2026 exam date. The GATE 2026 will be conducted in multiple sessions on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. The GATE 2026 results is scheduled to be announced on March 19, 2026.
The exam will be conducted in two shifts each day. The forenoon shift is scheduled from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, while the afternoon shift will run from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
The GATE 2026 exam will be held for approximately 30 papers , including Computer Science (CS), Electronics and Communication (EC), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Electrical Engineering (EE), Civil Engineering (CE), and several others. This year, IIT Guwahati has introduced a new section on Energy Science within the Engineering Sciences (XE) paper.
The institute has also increased the GATE 2026 application fee for all categories. Female, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates are required to pay Rs 1,000, while other candidates must pay Rs 2,000. Candidates who submit their application after the deadline will need to pay an additional late fee of Rs 500.
