IIT Guwahati to close GATE 2026 registration on September 28

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will close the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 registration on September 28 without a late fee. Candidates can apply for GATE 2026 registration on the official website, goaps.iitg.ac.in.

The last date for GATE 2026 registration with a late fee payment is October 9. IIT Guwahati will conduct the GATE 2026 exam on February 7, 8, 14, and 15 for 30 papers.

GATE 2026 will be administered in two sessions: from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and the afternoon session will be held from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

This year, the GATE 2026 registration fee has been revised from Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,000 for all candidates, while the registration fee for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and female applicants has been increased to Rs 1,000 from Rs 800.

IIT Guwahati has also introduced a new sectional paper, Energy Science, under the Engineering Sciences subject, offering flexibility of choice to aspirants. The engineering sciences paper will comprise Fluid mechanics, Materials science, Solid mechanics, Thermodynamics, Polymer science and engineering, Food technology, Atmospheric and oceanic sciences, and Energy science.

Furthermore, IIT Guwahati launched the GATE 2026 two-paper combination list, allowing applicants to choose the second paper as per preference. However, candidates are advised to select their primary and second test papers from the newly introduced combinations only. The exam centre of the second paper might be different, but in the same city as the first paper, due to infrastructure and date schedule constraints.
