ICAI holds ‘Brainstorming Meet’ to revamp CA curriculum with focus on AI, ESG, global standards

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organised a ‘Brainstorming Meet for Academic Excellence’ in New Delhi today. Industry experts, academicians, professionals, and former and present leaders of ICAI conducted the discussion on strengthening the academic framework for the chartered accountancy profession.

The discussion also incorporates contemporary subjects such as data analytics, artificial intelligence, ESG and forensic accounting, alongside digital learning tools in the CA curriculum.

“We aim to nurture analytical and entrepreneurial abilities that prepare students to seize opportunities in emerging sectors and adapt to evolving industry trends,” according to official statement.

Charanjot Singh Nanda, CA and president, ICAI, said: “Academic excellence is the cornerstone of ICAI’s global reputation. The Chartered Accountant of tomorrow must be a multidimensional professional, a trusted advisor, a technology-driven leader, a global citizen and an ethical guardian of public interest.”

ICAI new curriculum

“Our new curriculum, aligned with the National Education Policy and global standards, places strong emphasis on practical learning, technology integration and soft skills,” Nanda added.

The experts also discussed taxation, accounting, law, auditing and career development, and recommended reforms to integrate practical exposure, innovation and ethical application of technology in the CA curriculum.

“The Taxation session recommended multidisciplinary case studies and ethical integration of AI in the CA course. The Accounting session stressed practical learning, gamification, government accounting and CFO interactions, while the Law session focused on advocacy skills, legal interpretation and court preparedness,” the official statement by the institute reads.

An auditing session was also conducted which emphasised on inclusion of practical audit methodologies and the introduction of start-up audits. The meet also throws light on the need to boost advanced career development pathways for chartered accountants, enabling them to move from CFO roles to CEO leadership.

Hans Raj Chugh, CA and chairman, BoS (A), ICAI, stated: “Chartered Accountants are not only financial advisors but also nation builders. In today’s rapidly evolving global landscape, ICAI is constantly reimagining how it prepares students to stay relevant and indispensable. With initiatives like comprehensive study resources, live virtual classes, mentorship programmes and open house sessions, ICAI is fostering a supportive and future-ready learning environment for aspiring professionals.”

The institute said that the discussions offered cross-sectoral perspectives and actionable insights, aligning academics with industry needs, global benchmarks and future challenges.

“These insights will serve as valuable inputs for future reforms in curriculum design, study resources, digital learning and skill development, ensuring that the next generation of Chartered Accountants continues to lead with competence, adaptability and integrity in an evolving world,” the official statement reads.
