NEW DELHI: The Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main 2025), is just a month away. The JEE Main 2025 exam demands a strong grasp of concepts, strategic planning, and consistent practice, as per experts. With all questions made compulsory this year, focusing on time management and accuracy will be critical for success. The JEE Main 2025 exam date for session 1 is January 22 to 31.

The JEE Main 2025 exam will be conducted in a computer-based mode, featuring two sections: Section A and Section B. JEE Main 2025 Section A includes 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), while Section B consists of 5 numerical value questions (NVQs).

As per the JEE Main 2025 revised exam pattern, section B of paper 1 will not have optional questions. The JEE Main exam 2025 will be conducted online in 13 languages - Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu in addition to Hindi, English, and Gujarati.

As per the JEE Main 2024 exam analysis, candidates found the session 2 exams more challenging compared to session 1 held in January. Mathematics was rated the most difficult subject due to its lengthy and calculative questions, while chemistry, heavily based on NCERT, was considered tougher than physics. Physics included a mix of theory and formula-based questions. The exams were conducted across 319 cities, including 22 abroad, with 12.57 lakh candidates registered for JEE Main 2024 session 2.

JEE Main Preparation Tips 2025: Section-wise tips to crack exam

Below are JEE Main 2025 preparation tips and strategies for physics, chemistry, and mathematics.

JEE Main Preparation 2025: Strategies for physics

Physics often challenges students with its mix of conceptual understanding and numerical problem-solving questions. As per experts, preparing effectively for this section requires a clear grasp of fundamental principles and their applications. Here are some strategies shared by P Sindhura, director, Narayana Educational Institutions, to approach the JEE Mains 2025 physics section:

  • Focus on conceptual understanding: Focus on building a strong foundation in key topics such as mechanics, electrodynamics, optics, and modern physics. Use NCERT textbooks and other reliable resources to understand principles and their applications.

  • Practice consistently: Dedicate time to solving a variety of problems from previous year’s question papers and mock tests. This will improve both speed and accuracy while helping identify weaker areas.

  • Focus on high-weightage topics: Prioritise topics like electromagnetism, mechanics, thermodynamics, waves, and oscillations, as they have historically carried more weight in the exam.

  • Problem-solving skills: Employ methods such as dimensional analysis, approximation, and elimination to tackle complex problems effectively. Break problems into simpler parts for easier resolution.

  • Time management: Avoid spending too much time on challenging questions. Address easier and moderate-level questions first to secure marks quickly and revisit tougher problems if time permits.

JEE Main 2025 Preparation Tips: Chemistry section

Chemistry balances conceptual understanding with factual memorisation. It is often considered scoring if approached strategically. Divided into Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry, this section requires targeted preparation. Below are some effective strategies for JEE Main 2025 chemistry subject shared by Ujjwal Singh, Founding CEO, Infinity Learn by Sri Chaitanya:

  • Follow NCERT Textbooks: Candidates can begin by focusing their preparation on NCERT textbooks, especially for inorganic and organic chemistry. These books form the foundation for most questions in the exam, as per Singh.
  • Avoid rote learning- Candidates should avoid rote learning and instead focus on understanding the mechanisms behind organic reactions. This approach will help them tackle application-based questions effectively and improve problem-solving skills.
  • Divide the subject into groups: Candidates can divide chemistry into three sections—physical, organic, and inorganic—and allocate dedicated time to each based on their strengths and weaknesses. This strategy will allow them to focus on areas that require more attention.
  • Solve previous year JEE question papers: Candidates are advised to solve previous year JEE question papers. This will help them recognize recurring question patterns and identify important topics like Coordination Compounds, Mole Concept, and Chemical Bonding.
  • Revise regularly: Candidates can use flashcards, summaries, and formula sheets for regular revision. These tools will help reinforce key concepts and ensure better retention, making it easier to recall important information during the exam.

JEE Main 2025 Preparation: Strategies for mathematics subject

Mathematics is a high-scoring section for many candidates but demands consistent practice and a strong command over formulas and concepts. Students can enhance their performance in JEE Mains 2025 mathematics by implementing the strategies recommended by Chandan Chakraborty, general manager, Pathfinder educational centre.

Strengthen fundamentals and focus on high-weightage topics- Candidates can begin by solidifying their understanding of fundamental concepts in each subject. It's essential to identify high-weightage topics, such as calculus in mathematics.

Solve past year papers and analyze question patterns- Candidates are required to practice solving previous years' question papers to familiarize themselves with the exam structure and common question types. Analyzing patterns in these papers can highlight recurring themes, allowing candidates to focus on similar questions and improve their preparation strategy.

Prioritize accuracy over speed during practice- While speed is important, candidates are advised to prioritize accuracy during practice sessions. Correct answers contribute to higher scores, while errors can result in negative marking. Taking a methodical approach to problem-solving and reviewing answers will help minimize mistakes and improve overall performance.

Memorize standard values and formulas- Candidates are advised to create and regularly review a formula sheet for each subject. Memorizing standard values and key formulas will not only save time during the exam but also boost confidence in solving complex problems accurately.

Solve 15-20 questions daily- Candidates can maintain consistency by solving 15-20 questions daily. Emphasis should be placed on pattern-based and application-oriented problems to build familiarity with different question types and enhance problem-solving skills over time.
