JEE Main 2026: At IIT Bombay, CSE remains top choice; closing rank falls by 2 points

According to the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) 2025 report by IIT Kanpur, the most preferred course for students was Computer Science Engineering (CSE), followed by Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EE and ME). Additionally, as per JoSAA 2025 data, the closing rank for CSE at IIT Bombay decreased by two points compared to the previous year under open category. JEE Main 2026 registration updates

A total of 28,705 candidates chose the BTech CSE programme for 4-year BTech admissions, while another 24,123 selected EE, and 21,412 opted for ME.

IIT Bombay offered a total of 1,096 seats under the gender-neutral category, which included 262 seats reserved under the female-only supernumerary quota. Out of these, the BTech CSE program had 159 gender-neutral seats and 39 female-only supernumerary seats.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will soon begin the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 registration process for the session 1 exam on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. The testing agency will hold JEE Main 2026 session 1 from January 21 to 30 and session 2 from April 1 to 10.

The closing rank for IIT Bombay’s BTech CSE program dropped by two points, reaching 66 this year, compared to the previous year’s closing rank under the open category.
