JEE Main 2026 Registration LIVE: NTA applications soon on jeemain.nta.nic.in; confusion on exam city resolved

The NTA has activated the demo registration link for JEE Main 2026 to help candidates familiarise themselves with the application process. While the official registration window is yet to open, aspirants can use the demo link to check the form layout, document upload requirements, and other procedural details. The full application process will be available soon on the official JEE Main website, jeemain.nta.nic.in.

The NTA has advised aspirants to update their Aadhaar, UDID (for PwD candidates), and category certificates (EWS, SC, ST, OBC-NCL) in advance to avoid discrepancies or rejection of their JEE Main 2025 application forms. Candidates will have to ensure that their Aadhaar cards reflect the correct name, date of birth (matching Class 10 marksheet), latest photograph, address, and father’s name before registration opens.

• Class 10 certificate (Class 12 certificate is not required).

NTA has revised the eligibility rule related to the 75% marks requirement in Class 12. Candidates who rank in the top 20 percentile of their respective state boards will now be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, even if they do not score 75% marks. This criterion, however, does not apply to JEE Main.

NTA has asked candidates to verify Aadhaar, UDID, and category certificates before registration to avoid mismatches in the application form. This step ensures personal details match across documents and does not affect exam city or centre allocation.

JEE Main 2026 exam will be conducted in the following modes:

• Paper 1 (BE /BTech)  will be held in the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.

NTA will conduct the JEE Mains 2026 in two sessions. Session 1 is usually held in January while session 2 takes place in April. Initially, the agency will announce the JEE Mains exam date 2026 for the first session.

JEE Main 2026 will be conducted in thirteen languages -- English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Candidates can choose from the following:

JEE Main 2026 is expected to be held in two sessions. NTA holds the entrance exam in two sessions to provide the following benefits: 

• Candidates will get two opportunities to improve their scores in the exam if they are not able to give their best in the first attempt. 
• In the first attempt, the candidates will get a first-hand experience of taking an examination and will know their mistakes which can be improve while attempting the test for the second time. This will reduce the chances of dropping a year and the candidates would not have to waste an entire year.
• If anyone misses the examination due to reasons beyond control (such as the board examination or health issues), then candidate can appear for the second session. 
• A candidate is not required to take both the sessions, however, if someone appears in both the sessions, then their best NTA scores will be considered for merit list preparation.

In case candidates forget their password for logging in to their profile for JEE Mains 2026, they can use the following steps to retreive password:

• Using the security question and its answer chosen during JEE Main 2025 registration.
• Using a verification code sent via text message (SMS) to the registered mobile number.
• Using a reset link sent via email to your registered email address.
• JEE Main 2026 application number printed on the computer-generated confirmation page must be mentioned in all such correspondences.

The list of qualifying exams for JEE Mains exam are as follows: 

• Class 12 final examination conducted by any recognized central or state board, such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for the Indian School Certificate (CISCE) etc.
• Intermediate or two-year Pre-University (PU) exam conducted by a recognized board or university.
• Final examination of the two-year course of the joint services wing of the National Defense Academy (NDA)
• Senior Secondary school examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) with a minimum of five subjects.
• Any public school/board/university examination in India or any foreign country is recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
• Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) vocational exam.
• A diploma recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education of at least three-year duration.
• General Certificate Education (GCE) exam (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
• High School certificate examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
• Candidates who have completed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class 12 examination.
• In case the Class 12 exam is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination earlier.

NTA has retained the previous year’s fee structure. The JEE Main 2026 registration fee for all category candidates is as follows. 

• General (India): Rs 1,000 (male), Rs 800 (female)
• Outside India: Rs 5,000 (male), Rs 4,000 (female)
• EWS/OBC (India): Rs 900 (male), Rs 800 (female)
• SC/ST/PwD: Rs 500
• Third Gender: Rs 500 (India), Rs 3,000 (outside India)
