The NTA has expanded the number of JEE Main 2026 exam cities from 284 to 323 to improve accessibility for candidates. The updated list of test centres is available in the JEE Main 2026 information bulletin on the official website.

Candidates can check the closing ranks for the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) branch at Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) for the open (general) category. Admissions to IIITs are conducted through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) based on Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main ranks, while a few IIITs also hold their own entrance exams for specific programmes.

Data from the last JoSAA counselling cycles shows a significant gap between Home-State and Other-State cut-offs at top NITs. For instance, in NIT Tiruchirappalli, the 2025 Computer Science closing rank was around 4,569 for Home-State candidates, compared to 1,449 for Other-State aspirants. Similar trends appear in NIT Warangal, where Other-State candidates required lower All India Ranks than Home-State students to secure seats in high-demand branches.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked all its affiliated schools to share Class 11 registration data with NTA. This move aims to prevent any overlap between JEE Main 2026 and CBSE Class 12 board exams, ensuring candidates do not face exam date conflicts.

In an official statement, the NTA explained that the calculator option seen on the exam platform is part of the generic CBT software interface used for multiple exams and does not apply to JEE Main. The agency expressed regret for the typographic error and any confusion caused to candidates.

The NTA has clarified that no onscreen standard calculator will be available during the JEE Main 2026 CBT. The agency said that a “typographic error” in the information bulletin incorrectly mentioned the availability of an onscreen calculator. The correction notice stated that “the use of calculators in any form is not permitted in this examination.”

According to the NTA schedule, JEE Main 2026 session 1 result will be declared on February 12, and the session 2 result will be announced on April 20. Both sessions will be conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode, except for the BArch drawing test, which will be held in offline pen-and-paper format.

As per the revised schedule, JEE Main 2026 session 1 exams will be held from January 21 to 30, while session 2 exams will now be conducted from April 2 to 9. Earlier, the second session was planned from April 1 to 10. The NTA made this change in the recently issued information brochure to streamline scheduling and coordination with board exams.

In case of name mismatch in Aadhaar Card and Class 10 marksheet or certificate of any candidate, an option will be given to overcome the issue. NTA asked JEE Main applicants to follow these steps if they face a mismatch between their name on the Aadhaar Card and Class 10 educational certificates:

• If a candidate receives the following message or pop-up after selecting "Confirm Name as per Aadhaar", the candidate should press the close button: 'Name mismatch during Aadhaar Authentication. To update your Name in Aadhaar Card, please visit your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. For details please visit myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. To proceed with Aadhaar Authentication, please enter your name as given in Aadhaar.'
• Upon closing the message or pop-up box, a new window will appear on the screen to proceed with Aadhaar authentication. At this step, candidates must enter their name exactly as mentioned on their Aadhaar card.
• Both the name on the educational certificate and the Aadhaar card will be captured during this process, allowing the candidate to continue with the application form.

The JEE Main 2026 session 2 exam dates have been revised from April 1–10 to April 2–9. Registrations for session 2 are expected to open in the last week of January 2026. NTA revised the schedule to avoid clashes with CBSE board exams and other national-level entrance tests.

JEE Main 2026 session 1 exams will be conducted from January 21 to 30. The computer-based test will cover BE and BTech papers, while the BArch drawing test will remain offline, with candidates required to attempt questions on A4 sheets under exam conditions.

For the first time, JEE Main 2026 will have an onscreen standard calculator for basic calculations such as square root and percentage. Candidates are not allowed to bring physical calculators; possession may lead to disqualification.

Students registering for JEE Main 2026 are reporting technical difficulties while updating their Aadhaar details on the NTA’s official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. Many said the site does not respond after clicking the submit button, redirecting them to the same page despite repeated attempts. Some aspirants noted that waiting for two hours or retrying intermittently helped, but the issue continues for several candidates. NTA began registrations on October 31, which will close on November 27, with session 1 scheduled from January 21 to 30 and results expected on February 12.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued guidelines for JEE Main 2026 registrations where the testing agency clarified that aspirants must ensure that they should use their own or parents or guardians mobile number and email address only in the JEE Main 2026 registration form as all information will be sent by NTA through email on the registered email address or SMS on the registered mobile number.

The JEE Main 2026 question paper will consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). As per the marking scheme, four marks will be awarded for each correct answer, one mark will be deducted for each wrong response. Those who will leave the question unanswered will get 0 marks.    

Notably, if more than one option is found to be correct then four marks will be given to only those who have marked any of the correct options. If all option s are found to be correct then four marks will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.

However, physical calculators are still prohibited inside the exam hall. Candidates found in possession of barred items will be disqualified from the exam.

Students seeking admission in IITs should not only secure a rank in the top 2.5 lakh, but should also obtain a minimum qualifying mark in JEE Advanced 2026. The JEE Main 2026 question paper will be divided into three sections -- physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Each section will comprise two sub-sections -- section A and section B. While section A will contain 20 questions, section B will have 5 questions in all 3 subjects.

The NTA has clarified that its advisory regarding the update of Aadhaar and UDID details is unrelated to JEE Main 2026 exam city allotment. This statement comes after reports claimed that candidates might be unable to select their preferred exam city. According to the NTA, the notice issued on September 29, 2025, was intended solely to prevent data mismatches during the application process.

No, the National Testing Agency (NTA) which conducts the JEE Main 2026 session 1 and 2 exams for admission to BTech, BArch, and BPlanning has not yet announced the application begin date. 

The basic eligibility requirements for JEE Main 2026 are as follows:

• Candidates should have passed Class 12 in 2024 or 2025, or be appearing for the exam in 2026.
• Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects in Class 12, along with one subject from Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, or a Technical Vocational subject.
• There is no minimum percentage or marks requirement to apply.
• There is no age limit for candidates appearing in JEE Main 2026.

JEE Mains 2026 will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), while as per media reports, IIT Roorkee will likely conduct JEE Advanced for admission to IITs.
