JEE Main 2026 Registration: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has revised the exam date for the JEE Main 2026 session 2 exam. The testing agency is currently holding JEE Mains 2026 registrations on its official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in for session 1 exam. The exam dates for session 2 has been revised. The NTA has also clarified that no use of calculator allowed in JEE Main 2026 after it published a typographical error in informationa bulletin.

Earlier, aspirants rejoiced as the NTA announced an onscreen standard calculator allowing basic calculations for the first time in the exam. However, the testing agency has now said that it will not be allowed as the virtual calculator is a part of the generic test conducting platform.

The NTA earlier announced the JEE Main 2026 exam date, and accordingly JEE Main 2026 session 1 exams will be held from January 21 to 30, and session 2 from April 1 to 10. However, the session 2 exam dates have now been revised.

The testing agency has also directed candidates to keep their Aadhar, UDID, and category certificates updated to prevent any discrepancies while filling out the JEE Main 2026 application form.

The engineering entrance exam is held to offer admission to undergraduate programs in engineering, architecture, and planning across the top Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other centrally funded technical institutions.

JEE Main 2026 application fee

The JEE Main 2026 application fee for the engineering entrance examination is given in the table below.

As per the JEE Main 2026 eligibility criteria, there’s no age limit to apply. Candidates who have qualified for Class 12 in 2024 or 2025, or are appearing in 2026, can apply. Additionally, candidates should have physics and mathematics along with any other subject from chemistry, biotechnology, biology, and technical vocational to fulfill the criteria.

JEE Mains 2026 Registrations LIVE: Documents required?

The following documents will be required at the time of JEE Main 2026 registration:

  • The recent passport size photograph in colour with 80% face (without mask) visible including ears against white background. Photograph in JPG/JPEG format between 10 kb to 200 kb.
  • Signature file in JPG/JPEG format (clearly legible) between 10 kb to 100 kb.
  • Scanned copy of Class 10 or Equivalent Certificate/Marks-sheet in pdf format between 50 kb to 300 kb.
  • Scanned copy of Identity Proof (for those candidates who will verify their identities through methods other than Aadhaar or DigiLocker) in format JPG/JPEG between 10 kb to 200 kb.
  • Scanned copy of Disability/UDID certificate in pdf format between 50 kb to 300 kb.

JEE Mains 2026: Exam dates changed?

Yes, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has revised the exam dates for the JEE Main 2026 session 2 exams. The session 1 will be held from January 21 to 30, while session 2 exams will now be conducted from April 2 to 9. Earlier, the second session was planned from April 1 to 10. The National Testing Agency (NTA) recently clarified that it had made a typographical error in the JEE Mains 2026 information bulletin after it published the use of virtual calculator in the college entrance test. The testing agency has informed the students that the calculator was mentioned by mistake and no use of calculator is allowed in the engineering entrance test.

JEE Main 2026 Registration: Home vs other-state NIT cut-offs

Data from the last JoSAA counselling cycles shows a significant gap between Home-State and Other-State cut-offs at top NITs. For instance, in NIT Tiruchirappalli, the 2025 Computer Science closing rank was around 4,569 for Home-State candidates, compared to 1,449 for Other-State aspirants. Similar trends appear in NIT Warangal, where Other-State candidates required lower All India Ranks than Home-State students to secure seats in high-demand branches.

JEE Main 2026: CBSE coordination to prevent date clash

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked all its affiliated schools to share Class 11 registration data with NTA. This move aims to prevent any overlap between JEE Main 2026 and CBSE Class 12 board exams, ensuring candidates do not face exam date conflicts.

JEE Main 2026: NTA terms calculator mention a typographic error

In an official statement, the NTA explained that the calculator option seen on the exam platform is part of the generic CBT software interface used for multiple exams and does not apply to JEE Main. The agency expressed regret for the typographic error and any confusion caused to candidates.

No onscreen calculator in JEE Main 2026

The NTA has clarified that no onscreen standard calculator will be available during the JEE Main 2026 CBT. The agency said that a “typographic error” in the information bulletin incorrectly mentioned the availability of an onscreen calculator. The correction notice stated that “the use of calculators in any form is not permitted in this examination.”

JEE Main 2026 Aadhaar authentication: How to fix name mismatch?

In case of name mismatch in Aadhaar Card and Class 10 marksheet or certificate of any candidate, an option will be given to overcome the issue. NTA asked JEE Main applicants to follow these steps if they face a mismatch between their name on the Aadhaar Card and Class 10 educational certificates:

  • If a candidate receives the following message or pop-up after selecting "Confirm Name as per Aadhaar", the candidate should press the close button: 'Name mismatch during Aadhaar Authentication. To update your Name in Aadhaar Card, please visit your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. For details please visit myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. To proceed with Aadhaar Authentication, please enter your name as given in Aadhaar.'
  • Upon closing the message or pop-up box, a new window will appear on the screen to proceed with Aadhaar authentication. At this step, candidates must enter their name exactly as mentioned on their Aadhaar card.
  • Both the name on the educational certificate and the Aadhaar card will be captured during this process, allowing the candidate to continue with the application form.

NTA JEE Mains 2026 Registration: Year of appearing in Class 12 exams

As per the JEE Mains 2026 eligibility criteria, students who have passed Class 12 or equivalent examinations in 2024, 2025, and those appearing in exams in 2026 are eligible to apply. However, candidates who passed the 12th board exams in or before 2023 are not allowed to take the entrance exam.

JEE Main 2026 Registrations: Marking scheme, MCQs

The JEE Main 2026 question paper will consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). As per the marking scheme, four marks will be awarded for each correct answer, one mark will be deducted for each wrong response. Those who will leave the question unanswered will get 0 marks.

Is calculator allowed in JEE Mains?

No, calculator is not allowed in JEE Mains 2026, as per the NTA information bulletin, available on jeemain.nta.nic.in. While appearing for JEE Main 2026, candidates will not be allowed to carry instruments, geometry or pencil box, handbag, purse, any kind of paper/ stationery/ textual material (printed or written material), eatables and water (loose or packed), mobile phone/ earphone/ microphone/ pager, calculator, DocuPen, slide rules, log tables, camera, tape recorder, electronic watches with facilities of calculator, any metallic item or electronic gadgets or devices.

JEE Main 2026 exam pattern

As per NTA JEE Main 2026 information bulletin, the JEE Main exam pattern 2026 remains the same as last year. There will be a total of 75 questions carrying 300 marks. The JEE Main 2026 question paper will be divided into three sections -- physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Each section will comprise two sub-sections -- section A and section B. While section A will contain 20 questions, section B will have 5 questions in all 3 subjects.
