Leh schools, colleges to remain shut for 2 days

Leh: According to the official district magistrates' schools, colleges, anganwadi centres shut for two days due to ongoing protests in the district.
All educational institutes will remain closed for two days in the Leh district due to ongoing protests. The district magistrate has directed chief education officers, college principals and heads of educational institutions to ensure strict compliance with the order.
Schools, colleges and universities will be shut from tomorrow onwards till September 27, as per the district magistrate's order.
“In view of the prevailing situation in Leh district, it is hereby order that all Government/Private Schools, Anganwadi Centres, Colleges, Coaching Centres and other educational institutions within Leh District shall remain closed for two days, September 26,”
According to reports, at least 50 people have been detained so far in connection with the violence that broke out on September 24 during the shutdown called by Leh Apex Body (LAB) to demand an extension of the Sixth Schedule and statehood for Ladakh.

"The situation in the curfew-hit areas is under control. There are no incidents to report from anywhere," a police officer told PTI, confirming the detentions.
According to the Times Now reports, Lieutenant Governor of the union territory, Kavinder Gupta chaired a security review meeting and called for heightened vigilance to safeguard peace.
Furthermore, the escalation of violence had led climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to abandon his fortnight-long hunger strike, which he was undertaking in favour of the demands. Wangchuk has denounced the violence. "This is the saddest day for Ladakh...the path we are treading for the last five years was peaceful," Wangchuk said. With inputs from PTI
