Lucknow schools shut today due to heavy rainfall, waterlogging issues

Lucknow’s district magistrate has directed all schools to remain shut today due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging issues in the city. The Telangana government has also announced a holiday in five districts of the state, including Warangal, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri.

The Meteorological Department predicted heavy rainfall in the Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana districts. Telangana chief minister, A Revanth Reddy, directed all officials to remain alert for the next 72 hours.

The Telangana school education director said all schools shall function in the morning shift in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area. Meanwhile, the state irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has directed all irrigation department officials to be fully vigilant against any mishap or danger due to heavy rain.

All teaching work will remain suspended in all government, aided, and private schools from pre-primary to Class 12 of all boards, and all board-affiliated schools in all urban and rural areas of Lucknow district, according to the DM's notice.

IMD has also issued an orange alert for several northern districts of the state, including Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur, Sitapur, Bahraich, Shravasti, Gonda, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, and Maharajganj. With inputs from PTI
