Maharashtra ARA studies Karnataka’s CET, admission model in second visit to KEA

In another visit, Maharashtra’s Admissions Regulating Authority (ARA) gathered information about the Common Entrance Test (CET) and seat allocation process in Karnataka. ARA chairman Sameer Kumar Biswas visited the office of Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) for the second time. KEA’s administrative officer, Islavuddin Gadyal, provided detailed information through a demonstration.

ARA, which looks over several professional courses under the Maharashtra government, noted how KEA is simultaneously allocating seats for a total of 21 different types of courses, including medical, engineering, agricultural science, and nursing. Gadyal explained the nitty gritties of the exam model and admission process to Biswas in a step-by-step manner.

A delegation led by Biswas had earlier visited KEA in June to study the examination system and reforms implemented by Karnataka, to understand how the state manages centralised admissions for multiple courses through a single exam.

The visit comes as Maharashtra currently conducts separate entrance examinations and seat allocation processes for about 61 different courses, leading to unnecessary delays and confusion amongst students.

Apart from the seat allocation process, Biswas also learnt about strict measures taken against candidates who fail to report to colleges after seat allotment in KCET counselling, as well as aspects such as document verification and choice registration.

Appreciating the KEA examination and admission system, ARA chairman said that the measures taken by Karnataka in the interest of students are innovative and will help Maharashtra find ways to streamline the process.
