Following Durgapur gang-rape case, the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) Nagpur has banned the entry of food delivery agents inside the hostel buildings, as per a Times of India (TOI) report. The medical college and hospital have reportedly taken the decision to step up the security measures since last year’s RG KAR Medical College rape case.

The medical college dean told TOI that the movement of delivery agents will be limited to the security post outside the hostels. The tiffin delivery service providers will now be accompanied by a security guard while delivering food to the rooms of patients. These measures are part of the steps taken during the rape and murder of the resident doctor in West Bengal last year.

The dean has given the authority to take decisions on hostels on their behalf to the secretary of Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) and the hostel-in-charge at the college, the report said. Additionally, the college has hired Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) guards and prohibited the entry of students and others inside the premises.
