SERB increases National Postdoctoral Fellowship amount

SERB has increased the NPDF amount to Rs 80,000 per month which will be effective from April 1, 2023.
NEW DELHI : The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) has approved the revision of the fellowship amount of the National Postdoctoral Fellowship (NPDF) scheme. The fellowship amount has been revised from Rs 50,000 per month to Rs 80,000 pm. SERB announced that the revised fellowship will be effective from April 1, 2023.
The board informed that the NPDF scheme has been provided with a research grant of Rs 2 lakh per annum. Moreover, the host institute has received Rs 1 lakh to support the fellows.
“National Postdoctoral fellows under the SERB - NDPF scheme has been provided a research grant of Rs 2 lakh per annum in addition to a fellowship of Rs 50,000 pm plus HRA (Rs 35,000 per month plus HRA for candidates who have submitted the thesis, but degree not awarded). Overhead amounting to Rs 1 lakh per annum is provided to host institute to provide necessary administrative and infrastructural support to the fellow,” said SERB in an official notice.
The board added that the matter related to revision of the fellowship was under consideration. “The SERB Board has approved the revision of fellowship of NPDF to Rs 80,000 per month plus applicable HRA or Rs 50,000 per month plus applicable HRA, if thesis submitted but awaiting the award of PhD degree,” it stated.
Last year, the University Grants Commission also announced an increase in fellowship amounts including Post Doctoral Fellowship for women, Scheduled Caste (SC), and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.
