Study in the UK: The country has the sixth biggest gaming industry. The courses offered in the UK will focus on game design, development, and technology.
NEW DELHI: The British Council has announced a list of top five master's programmes in gaming offered by the universities in the United Kingdom. Several universities across the UK offer top-tier gaming programmes, equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the field, the council said.
According to data published in 2023, approximately 3.26 billion people play video games worldwide, which is 41% of the world population. Of which, 32 million gamers are from the UK and it also has the world’s sixth biggest gaming industry.
The country has over 2,200 gaming companies, of which many have close connections with the UK universities. The council informed that the number of people playing video games is expected to grow to 4.55 billion by 2027, which is bound to create new job opportunities.
Top gaming courses in UK
British Council has curated a list of five MA in Gaming with focus on game design, development and technology.
Pre-Master’s in Animation and Gaming : The course offers a foundational pathway for students looking to pursue advanced studies in gaming. It will cover fundamental concepts, skills and knowledge, including computer graphics, animation principles, and game design.
MA in Game Design : The course will help students to craft compelling and immersive gaming experiences. This will help candidates to develop the skills such as 2D design, 3D modelling, technical artistry, coding, sound, storytelling, character and environment design, among others.

MSc in High Performance Graphics and Games Engineering : This course will focus on technical aspects of game development. This will help students learn advanced concepts in graphics, real-time rendering, and computational techniques. It will also focus on in-depth knowledge of algorithms.
MSc in Computer Games Development : This will offer a comprehensive understanding of the computer games development process. From concept to completion, students will learn about game design, programming, art, audio, and project management. Play testing sessions will be conducted to check the impact and reach of the game.
MDes in Games Design and Development : The course will provide an opportunity to learn about both creative design and technical proficiency. Students will be given an opportunity to design and develop their own game.
